The Metaverse in Cardiovascular Medicine: Applications, Challenges, and the Role of Non-Fungible Tokens

      The recent pandemic triggered an acceleration in adopting innovative technologies by the health care industry. One of the technological breakthroughs that flourished during this period—and has rapidly gained popularity—is the trending and novel concept of the metaverse. The metaverse represents a blend of digital environments that use augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) to create an immense online world, running on blockchain, in which users can interact using avatars and perform various activities from shopping to attending virtual events. Diverse industries (from high-tech and business to art and real estate) have started to invest actively and explore its potential applications. The health care sector is next to investigate this groundbreaking digital innovation that promises to revolutionize the medical ecosystem, including cardiovascular medicine.
