Gary Webb (Fig. 1) died shortly before the submission of the clinical practice guidelines published
in this volume of the Canadian Journal of Cardiology.
Herewith, we dedicate these guidelines to his memory. This is fitting because Gary
led the development of the first international adult congenital heart disease (ACHD)
guidelines published in our field, the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Guidelines
of 1996.
He continued thereafter to play an important leadership role in most of the guidelines
and consensus statements in our field since that time. The panel members who came
forward to bring their voices to this tribute are from multiple generations of trainees,
crossing international boundaries and multiple disciplines, speaking to the unbounded
range of his impact. Indeed, we all stand on the shoulders of a giant.
