Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in athletes and active individuals.

Although these events are rare, they have a profound psychological impact on communities.

To identify athletes at risk of cardiovascular events, pre-participation screening
(PPS) is recommended by numerous international medical societies, including the Canadian
Cardiovascular Society (CCS) and Canadian Heart Rhythm Society (CHRS).

However, there is substantial variability in screening practices across Canada, and
no formal system to track athletic screening outcomes.

In an attempt to standardize PPS and facilitate the collection of screening data
from Canadian athletes, the Community & Athletic Cardiovascular Health Network (CATCHNet)
developed an online cardiovascular screening portal. This portal allows health care
providers to efficiently organize PPS requests and review patient information, all
while contributing to an athletic cardiovascular health research registry. The purpose
of this commentary is to describe the infrastructure of this portal and to promote
its use within Canadian institutions aiming to incorporate a standardized data collection
